Peer review

This week we were tasked with writing a review on two of our fellow student’s blogs, we also received a review on our blogs, from our peer’s. We started by reading articles about the different ways we can give feedback, we studied about giving feedforward (Goldsmith) and how that advice comes across more positively, we also learned about mirror advice (Be a Mirror: Give Readers Feedback That Fosters a Growth Mindset) and how having a growth mindset can really affect a person’s work ethic. We spoke about how we should receive feedback, we read about how having a fixed mindset can stop you from developing new skills, we learned it is important to receive feedback and how you can use it, to positively influence your creative work. Most people don’t particularly like getting feedback as no matter how it is intended, sometimes it can come across as criticism and can be demoralising and unproductive for future work.

I liked reading the review on my blogs, as I am recently new to all this blogging and I was not sure whether I was writing my blogs properly or if the layout and referencing was done right, so it was very reassuring to read the comments and receive encouraging suggestions for how I could improve my future blogs.

I found it hard to give feedback on one of my blogs because it was one of my close friend’s blogs, (Lyons, 2021) at first, I wanted to say how wonderful the blog was and I didn’t want to give any negative feedback so I thought about how I could portray some feedforward, because everyone can do with learning how they can improve their work including me. My second blog wasn’t as hard to review because as I didn’t really know the other student, (Shane, 2021) it was easier to remain impartial and to give a completely honest opinion about his blog.

I have learned that it is ok to give your opinion if it is given as feedforward and that when someone gives you advice you should use it to help you and not take it as a criticism, after all we can all learn from our mistakes!
