Towards Production

 Making a college documentary, week 2

We are still in the pre-production stage; everyone has explored lots of separate research into our topic “Cancel Culture and Online Shaming”, so we are trying to bring together our separate work and start creating a script while organising our different roles for the production stage. Kelly is taking the lead on things, she has ordered a lapel mike and she has been trying out different animation websites in case we are going to use an animation or avatar for our project, I also played around with the PowToon (Create, 2021) website this week, we haven’t made the final decision on this for now. Kelly wrote a list of different roles we would need for our project, like editor, lighting, music, script etc. We spoke about the different roles in class, none of us have a particular strength in any area (as we are all new to documentary making) so for now we chose to share most roles, so that no one feels under pressure, and we can support each other while doing so. We have four people in our group and last week Sofia was not in class so we couldn’t really involve her in our progress, thankfully Sofia came to class this week so Kate informed her of what we have being doing and Kelly assigned her some tasks so that she could get involved. Sofia started researching our topic so she could add to our group project. We discussed what type of music we were going to have on our project so I started looking up various songs about bullying and cancel culture, I found a song that Eminem wrote about being cancelled for a previous song from years ago, (EminemMusic) we haven’t decided on what song/s we are using but I think as our topic is very serious, we need to be careful not to choose an upbeat type of song as it just wouldn’t fit well. I also started to write up an opening introduction for our documentary and Kate was writing up a closing paragraph for our script so we hope to bring this together this week and create the final script, we have a break from our usual blogs in college, so we are going to try and organise meeting up during the week to go over what we all have found and lock down our ideas into a plan for production. We got great research videos from our lecturer, especially one about how to create the right lighting. (Walbeck) I feel excited about recording but I also feel like it is going to be a lot of work to get everything perfect to record a documentary worth watching.
