Final re-write!
Ah, Final Re-Write, it feels so good to write those words!
So, this is my final
reading blog for Semester one in my module “Introduction to Digital Media” on
our college course “Creative Digital Media” and I am going to discuss how I felt
about getting reviewed by my peers and my lecturer about my blogs and my
re-writing experience.
Introduction to digital
media has been the hardest module, with the most work involved but for me, it has
also been the most enjoyable educational and enlightening module.
When we were asked to
give peer review, I didn’t really like that experience initially but when we
learned about how to give positive feedback(feedforward) I realized that it
benefited both me and the student who was receiving my feedback. This week I received
feedback from my lecturer. The feedback was positive, which is good, but
because I only really got one sentence about changing my blog for a re-write, I
did struggle a bit to get started on my revised blog. Thankfully we had learned
a little bit about how to make your writing more concise, basically, you need to
avoid unnecessary use of expletives, i.e., don’t add extra words to your blogs
to fill them out. We also learned about having an Active voice, which means to write
with strong precise words and sentences. We learned it is important to open your
blog with a good introduction to get your audience engaged, keeping your introduction
simple and clear to hook your reader. Come up with some arguments and supporting
research to show your readers that you have researched the topic thoroughly and
that you have critical thinking to show your own opinion. And finally, it is important
to finish up your blogs with a summing up conclusion, recapping on the blog, and
finalizing your point of view.
I didn’t like the peer
reviews at the start of the semester, but I have changed my opinion. Before October
I had never written a blog, so I struggled at the start to know what to say,
but I really feel that the peer review and re-writing exercises along with the
video and reading tasks have strengthened my writing ability and grammar. I have
learned that it is ok to accept feedback when you can discover and improve from
it. I know I will benefit from these new skills for my future college work. I love
learning new things!
