  Reading an academic paper on active reading, what have I learned? The paper is titled “using student constructed questions to encourage active reading” It was published in 1984 by the Author Ernest Baljthy.   (Bajthy, 1984) This paper seemed to be aimed at teachers who want to encourage their students to open their minds and think about questioning pieces of text to help them remember what they are studying. Although it seems to be aimed at teachers, I think students can also learn from it. At first glance I wasn’t sure how to condense the information in the text, but then I put into practise some active reading skills I have learned, I skimmed over the main bulk of the text and then I looked out for text that would be relevant to this assignment. After deciphering this paper, I have learned to approach my reading with a more critical eye, If I question what I am reading and take notes, I will learn more from the text.   This week we were tasked with writing a review on two of our fellow student’s blogs, we also received a review on our blogs, from our peer’s. We started by reading articles about the different ways we can give feedback, we studied about giving feedforward  (Goldsmith) and how that advice comes across more positively, we also learned about mirror advice  (Be a Mirror: Give Readers Feedback That Fosters a Growth Mindset) and how having a growth mindset can really affect a person’s work ethic. We spoke about how we should receive feedback, we read about how having a fixed mindset can stop you from developing new skills, we learned it is important to receive feedback and how you can use it, to positively influence your creative work.   Ah! peer review, why is it so hard? This is the second time in my “Introduction to Digital Media” module that we have been given the task of reviewing our fellow students' blog posts. I am still not fully comfortable commenting on other students' blogs, I struggle to find anything negative to say because when you think of feedback you automatically think it is going to be a criticism of someone else’s arduous work. We are learning through our prescribed reading’s this week that feedback should not come across as a negative thing. We learned about the “SPARK” method.  (Gardner, 2019) Spark is an acronym: ·        Specific: Our comments should be linked to a phrase, sentence, or word. ·        Prescriptive: We should offer a solution or suggestion to help improve their work. ·        Actionable: Your fellow student should know what they need to change to improve. ·   ...
